Try this: run a compressor (this one is a Visual Sound Comp 66) into a dirt pedal (I used a Maxon OOD-9 overdrive), and enjoy the results! The title is "Butter, Please!". The amp is a Roland Cube 30 on "Classic Stack" (Marshall) setting, you can hear in the beginning of the improvised tune that it's a rather clean setup with just a slight, dynamic crunch. On the Maxon, the drive was maxed out, and the level was set to match the bypassed volume level. On the Comp 66, the comp knob was dimed, and the gain was set to match the bypassed volume level. The tone control's switch was off. The guitar stayed on the neck pickup. It's a rather lightly wound PAF style pickup with an Alnico V magnet and loads of wax, originally in the neck of a Squier Fat Telecaster. I removed the chromed brass cover to get a bit more high end.
